Surface: Maple and Nickel Plated Steel
This piece was designed for the 9th annual Design After Dark event benefiting the Denver Art Museum. The event theme was “Cirque” and we drew “Illusion.” We chose what appeared to be a nondescript maple slab. By processing, sanding and finishing the slab we exposed veins of color and arresting, three dimensional ripples that appear deep, but feel smooth. Further playing on our theme, we paired this distinctive specimen of nature with a hand-bent, polished, and nickel-plated steel base which disappears into its surroundings. Our goal is always to design and build well-crafted, functional pieces to be admired, but used. And this is no exception.
